How to get a training post in the UK

Things have become very easy for IMGs to get into training in the UK.

Read this:

Page 11 in particular:
"Right to work in the UK From 6 October 2019, all medical practitioners have been added to the Shortage Occupation List in the UK. This means that all medical practitioners are exempt from the Resident Labour Market Test (RLMT) and can apply for any specialty in any recruitment round, subject to eligibility. Applicants to Public Health will still be subject to the RLMT. See Annex D for more information on right to work."

Anex D on page 50 explains it in more detail:
"All medical practitioners are now on the Shortage Occupation List and are therefore exempt from the RLMT. All applicants to Public Health training, from both a medical and non medical background will be subject to the RLMT."

So what does this mean?
All IMGs can apply in round 1 of all training posts EXCEPT Public health training.

How can I apply?
By reading the person specifications here:
https://specialtytraining.hee.nhs.uk/Recruitment/Person-specifications

What do I need to look for?

1. Maximum/minimum experience required
2. What is the essential criteria to apply for that training post
3. Whether you need your competencies signed off or not ( IF you are working in non training post).

So what should my plan be?

Get registered with the GMC
Apply for non training posts
Get your competency forms signed while working in the NHS:

https://omarsguidelines.blogspot.com/2019/10/the-2020-foundation-competency-crest.html
Apply for a training post ONCE you have met the essential criteria. Trying to get as many desirable criteria will strengthen your application further.

And that is it!
