Shopping list for your new born

This blog post compliments this post: http://omarsguidelines.blogspot.co.uk/2018/02/pregnancy-in-uk.html When you are expecting, you get advice from everywhere. Buy a cot from Ikea! Buy everything from Mama and Papas ! Buy the most expensive Silvercross pram in the UK ! My wife and I faced a similar dilemma. So we did our research online on baby forums and narrowed down what to buy. We bought the major expensive items over Christmas when everything was on sale. And we bougtht the remaining stuff over the past few weeks. We were done by the time my wife entered her final trimester. This blog just gives a general idea of what we bought and when we bought it. Every couple has their own priorities however these are the most important things to remember: 1. If it is expensive, it does not mean it is necessarily good. 2. Yes, this is your first child in the UK. However this does not mean you need to spend 5,000 GBP on a pram when you get the same for 200 GBP. 3. Research on everything! Th...

My guideline on booking hotels in the UK

International Medical Graduates have to book hotels on multiple occasions unless they have family living nearby for: 1. Attending PLAB 2 academies - some doctors prefer staying in hotels 2. Giving the PLAB 2 exam in Manchester 3. Attending their ID checks in Manchester/ London. 4. Attending interviews for their jobs And once they start work, they may need to book hotels for 1. Exams 2. Courses 3. Conferences 4. Interviews Like everything else in this country, you can book a hotel online. This the most popular site: https://www.booking.com However this website does not show chain hotels like: https://www.travelodge.co.uk https://www.premierinn.com/gb/en/home.html http://www.ibis.com/united-kingdom/index.en.shtml https://www.ihg.com/holidayinnexpress/hotels/gb/en/reservation There are other websites - https://www.spareroom.co.uk https://www.airbnb.co.uk https://www.trivago.co.uk https://www.kayak.co.uk You can end up booking a room for 100 GBP per night or if you are a bit s...

Guideline for people who have started work in Harrogate

I am working as a core medical trainee - year 1 in Harrogate. I am based here from August 2017 to August 2018 after which I move to York. Harrogate is a very beautiful town - a lot of tourists visit it. It is in Yorkshire and if you know a bit about this county, you will realize that this place is extremely beautiful and peaceful. So this are my tips about this place: 1. Get registered with a GP here. https://www.nhs.uk/Services/Trusts/GPs/DefaultView.aspx?id=89718 This county is quite rich therefore the GP surgeries are top notch - the surgeries are clean, referrals are faster and the social services are very good (as they are well funded) - I am comparing this to my previous workplace - Slough. http://omarsguidelines.blogspot.co.uk/2017/03/guideline-for-people-who-have-started.html 2. If you are renting, you will need to pay council tax. Unfortunately the council taxes in this area are quite high (not as high as London though). https://www.gov.uk/council-tax https://www.harrog...
